The only picture I could
add is one that would be as confusing as parts of this piece. |
Last semester was a rough one for me. I had
four great classes and one big stinker. Some people who stop by
this site once in a while have experienced this stinker and I wanted
to share a small collection of quotations I gathered from the class.
If you think about it, I guess it's an honor to quote someone. You
know the dozens of quotes from people who said one wise thing at
some point in their lives. They probably did many other things too,
but as far as a majority of people go, the quote is all they've
done that was worthwhile. I would like to point out though, that
this collection is surely not a collection in tribute, it's more
a collection for other people to try and figure out what class in
the world could possibly contain all of these quotes. What subject
could possibly encompass all of these variances in language? Well--
you try to guess it! From the back of my notebook to the pages of
my site here they are: *In some cases I'll
give you clues that may help you interpret the quotes for your mystery.
“poo-poo” (used
as a verb)
“A swivel stick!”
“I had written a book in the interim…”
“That’s why sports are so important.” (on
defense and psychological walls)
“Don’t change my system.” (on
individual thinking and problem solving when researching/writing
a paper)
“Women are better than men… it’s a fact of life.”
(followed closely by...)
“Don’t generalize.”
“You’re only worth as much as you give”
“Your professors are superior to you.” (when
some professors were commended for treating students like people
and not serfs)
“It’s not do as I say.” (...but
ALWAYS do as he says)
“…the waiter dropped a candle on her head. Sometimes
life just takes over.” (I can't help
you with this one)
“The proof in the pudding is in the eating.” (a
conviluted version of the simpler 'The proof is in the pudding'
because it's understood
that you'll eat the
pudding to see what it's all about)
“…the ability to get your arms around your ego. Most
people can’t do that.” ("hey
John, remember the other day when you were
asking me what the definition
of irony was and i said--")
“They’re very bright people.” (in
regards to 'Orientals')
“<Name Withheld> is a big gallout.”
“When I was running for mayor of Wilkes-Barre…”
“This class is an updated version of a class in Greece.”
(…Aristotle. Plato, etc. See the
wrap your arms around your ego quote)
“making a point conkergized” (here
the intended word was concretized)
“Our ego wants to build us up—you have to put that aside.”
“Help Me by letting me help you.” (no,
Jerry McGuire was not the teacher)
“…horribly—I shouldn’t use a negative word—terribly
important…”
“Picking around the bush” (Okay
this was a student quote, but it was just humorous to me)
“You have to learn to follow before you can lead.” (this
quote was credited to Dr. Lee, from Drumline)
“I’m not neurotic.” (Webster
says... Main Entry: neu·ro·sis --- Etymology: New
Latin --- a mental and emotional disorder that affects
only part of the personality,
is accompanied by a less distorted perception of reality than in
a psychosis, does not result in
disturbance of the use
of language, and is accompanied by various physical, physiological,
and mental disturbances (as
visceral symptoms, anxieties,
or phobias)
