When Good Fans Go Bad...

backlash from disgruntled fans pictured above

In recent months there has been a surge in some fans lashing out at your humble website owner. It's a shame to see some old faces turn harsh, but I feel that not addressing a situation would result in its growth, much like the world's plan to ignore away pollution. There's a time when a line has to be drawn in the sand, as the incomparable John Goodman said in his portrayal of Walter Sobchak in The Big Lebowski, "Across this line, you do not pass!" It's not quite time to draw that line, but a discussion-- a forum if you will-- must be had to isolate a problem, then promise prompt refusal to correct it.

Our two main complainants in these months have become former roommate and neighbor, Gregory Kirschner and Joe Baldasare. These two fine men have decided that Pete Phillips Online is declining in quality. These two would like to address why the decline is occurring, but before you can do that you must first state the decline. Too often I've been checking in on the powerful viewer feedback in the guestbook and I find, scattered among notes of praise, a few sprinkles of disgust. The old adage is true, "You can't please everyone," but there's still an insatiable desire to do so. It's this desire that's making me write this right now.

This unloading is simple, and could be concluded after this:
Instead of saying the site is declining in quality, please say how it is declining. While I probably don't care about your qualms, I'll try and address them for a week. It'll be fun, let's try it.

Now you have to realize, for my sake, that I don't make this website to satisfy the masses, unless otherwise noted. I do it so I have some sort of creative outlet, like mvenos.com is for Mike. Without this I could be (more of) a mess. Also, in one probe to find out what direction I should take in my life, Mrs. Melissa Becker-Sgroi once asked, "If you didn't write for the Crown or in class, what would you do?" I answered, "Write for my website." It provides a place where I can put things out and people can see them, they may not like it, or they will like it. It's cool when people do like it, like Kyle, Alisha, Abby, and BJ, to name a few. Some just enjoy an article here and there, which is also cool because some of my writing appeals to different people. It's a cool tool for me to gage my writing skills and pick on my errors all the time. This is a personal site, and I have no sponsors to please or grants that I have to fulfill.

When people complain that I haven't updated, it's nice because I know that people are looking. When it's stated so eloquently as below, it's just annoying. Sometimes things don't happen to me, and when they do, I try to relate them in a creative manner. That is the sole mission of my site. As this unsatisfied viewer, who chose to go as the assumed pseudonym "dude," (...that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from) from the town of "dude," put it:

Well "dude," I don't care. I'm moving back to school and getting re-adjusted, so why don't you get out and write something for the site? I'm always willing to take submissions. Below "dude's" message you see the message from Greg and Joe. These two are usually fine arguers, though Greg can win an argument based solely on the belief that he's right, this is one of the weakest statements I've seen from them in a long time. Site quality may be deteriorating, but the debating skills of two past masters are also directly declining. Had these gentlemen cited examples of the "original glory" and the current "decline in quality," this statement could be refuted. As it is, it's as worthless to me as "dude's."

I started writing this an hour ago, I just got back and now I don't care so much anymore, so there ya go everybody. Hope you enjoyed. Everyone who likes this site should keep coming back and know that I appreciate your patronage immensely. Feel free to stand up for me at the guestbook!
